Christine Martin - President
A DCC singer since 2014, Christine Martin hails from northeastern Ohio where she was active in singing and musical theatre. After beginning college as a vocal performance major, she switched to the physiological sciences (thinking she might possibly earn a living in that field). While teaching Anatomy & Physiology at Stark State College she was awarded the State of Ohio College Teacher of the Year. She is President Emeritus of the Human Anatomy & Physiology Society, an international association dedicated to college science teaching and pedagogy. Transplanted to Maryland in 2000 she continued as a Primary Care Educator at the University of MD Medical School until she began a private duty elder care company. Now retired (YAY!!) she continues to sing alto in the DCC and the Chamber Choir.

Pete McCallum - Past President
Pete McCallum is the current past president of the Deer Creek Chorale. He and his wife, Carol, reside in Street, MD. Pete retired in June, 2011 from the Cecil County Public Schools after a 41-year career in public education the last 17 of which were as an Executive Director of Instruction. He serves on the Session at Highland Presbyterian Church, volunteers in the conservatory at Longwood Gardens, is an adjunct instructor and administrative internship supervisor for the McDaniel College graduate program in Cecil County, gardens, travels, exercises, and studies guitar. Pete has 5 young grandchildren and loves being an important part of their lives. As a retiree, one of his primary goals is to make a positive impact on the community in which he lives.

Meredith Leroy is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and lives in Jarrettsville, MD with her husband, Alan. She is the current Secretary of the Deer Creek Chorale and has sung with them for three years. She is an active member of her church, Saint James Monkton, and enjoys reading, gardening, going to the beach and riding horses at her daughter’s farm.
Suzanne Zantop - Treasurer
Suzanne Zantop - Treasurer
Suzanne Zantop has been a small business owner and worked in the performing arts in Harford County for over 30 years. She was Artistic Director of the Harford Dance Theatre, Chair of the School Concerts Committee, and an actor in and director of numerous theatrical productions in the Baltimore area. With DCC, Suzanne sings with the Chamber Choir and serves as Treasurer.
Sharon Bottcher is thrilled to be returning to her home state of MD and to the Deer Creek Chorale after a year in Florida. Sharon retired in February 2017 after a forty-year career in nursing. This included nursing at University of MD Shock Trauma and Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. Sharon spent the last fifteen years of her career in nursing administration at Medstar's Union Memorial and Good Samaritan hospitals. Music has been an integral part of her life from an early age, including participation in church choirs. Sharon had the good fortune to travel with her church choir to Europe in 2000 and 2004 to sing in various venues. Sharon also sings in the DCC Chamber Choir and believes in the positive impact music can have in our communities.
Jennifer Chandler is a veteran teacher with Harford County Public Schools, where she has taught English and Journalism for the last 22 years. She attended Susquehanna University for her BA and Towson University for her Masters. In addition to teaching, Jennifer has presented at conferences, participated in IGNITE, written curriculum, mentored new teachers, and served as leader in her school community as advisor to the journalism program, the Chess Club, the Kindness Committee, among others. When she is not in her classroom, she is typically cheering on her children who participate in a variety of sports and activities including track and field, cross country, swimming, lacrosse, and field hockey. As a parent of singer in DCYC since its inaugural year, Jennifer has volunteered at the Maryland Young Voices Festival and assists at many other DCYC events.
Jennifer lives in Pylesville, MD, with her husband, Jason, and her two daughters, Cassidy and Kendall, where she owns and operates CKC Veggies, a seasonal plant and veggie stand.
Kris Foster serves as the Judicial Assistant to a Federal Judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Prior to serving in the federal courts, she worked at the Baltimore office of Miles & Stockbridge P.C. for almost 15 years. She is a former student of Martha Banghart and is a charter member of the Deer Creek Chorale. Kris served as our first President of the Chorale from 2006-2009. Kris resides in Pylesville, Maryland with her husband, Jim, and two children, Jimmy and Julia, who are also members of the choir.
Sharon Kachur is the Assistant Supervisor of Mathematics for the Harford County Public Schools. In this role, Sharon is currently working with educators from across the country to implement the Common Core Standards for Mathematics and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers mathematics tests. In her spare time, Sharon serves as president of the Maryland Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, teaches graduate courses, works with her daughter to sew dresses for Haitian orphans, and sings with the Deer Creek Chorale. Sharon and her family are active supporters of several non-profit community organizations including the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore, Miriam´s Kitchen in Washington, D.C. and the Haiti Mission at Emory United Methodist Church.
Christine Master maintains that “All I have learned about singing has been in high school, college, church & community choirs.” This is her second year singing with DCC & she is thrilled to be a part of this organization. She also sings with First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air, Maryland. Her full time job is assisting Buyers & Sellers with their real estate needs in Harford & surrounding counties. She has been affiliated with RE/MAX American Dream for over ten years. Christine lives in the town of Bel Air with her “West Virginia Holler Hound”, Lucy & Gilly, her Humane Society rescue cat. She is treasurer of the Shreffler House, a local homeless shelter. Johns Hopkins Children Center is one of her favorite charities. She is also a philanthropist with the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford.
Don McGonigle has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of systems engineering, program and content management with specialized expertise in Knowledge Management and dissemination solutions for Federal Government agencies. His teams deliver information portals, databases, and collaborative systems including healthcare quality measures, toxic agent characteristics, international treaties and biotechnology market surveys, historical production and test processes. Don is a certified Project Management Professional and Leadership Coach Trainer. He currently volunteers as a Field Associate for the Maryland Area of the Christian Businessmen Connection and is involved in community development planning. He started singing in his middle school choir in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh (he is also the support team of the McGonigle musical family).
Lynn Moore has been a resident of Harford County since 1987. First living in Aberdeen, then moving to Churchville in 1993. In 1995 she joined the Harford Choral Society and was a member with them until 2003.
In the fall of 2003, she joined Masterworks of Carroll County. In July of 2005 she attended the 5th Biennial International Festival and Choral Celebration of Song. “Festival 500 Sharing the Voices” in Newfoundland Canada. It was a multi-day event with 25 choirs from around the world participating. In June of 2007, Masterworks traveled to the Vermont International Choral Festival in Stowe, Vermont. She continued to sing with Masterworks until the fall of 2010.
In the winter of 2010, Lynn began to study ballroom dancing along with her husband. They continue to dance now and dance competitively about 3 times a year. Lynn has also been a dedicated and an involved volunteer for the Maryland Center for the Arts. In 2015 she and her husband were dancers for the MD. Center for the Arts. She continues to be involved for the fundraising efforts of the Maryland Center for the Arts today.
In spring of 2015, Lynn returned to singing, joining with the Deer Creek Choral. She has been an enthusiastic participant since. In February of 2018, she joined along with approximately 50 members from Deer Creek Chorale where they performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Music, singing, dancing, all have been a life-long passion of Lynn Moore.
Jon grew up in New York and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. He was accepted to Teach for America and was given a Baltimore City Middle School Math placement where he taught for 4 years. Following this, he transitioned to Financial Planning and has built his practice as a franchise of Ameriprise Financial since 2000. During this time, he has built his team and earned the CRPC® and RICP® designations.
Jon married Michele in 2000 and has two daughters, Isabella (14) and Elena (11). Both girls will attend St. Paul’s School for Girls in the fall and are involved in a variety of activities including DCYC (Elena). Michele works with Baltimore County Schools as a School Psychologist and is currently placed in Padonia Elementary and Prettyboy Elementary.
Jon has served on the board of the Hearing & Speech Agency for 5 years and is currently serving as the President. He is also involved in the Susquehanna Youth Ballet and often participates in partner dancing with Isabella and individual roles as needed (Mother Ginger, Drosselmeyer). For more than 10 years, Jon has spent almost 3 hours every other Friday donating platelets with the Red Cross and is approaching 400 lifetime units.
Lisa Shearer has spent the last 30 years of life moving around the country with her husband Gary and her two children, Carter and Kelly. With each move, Lisa has taken advantage of new opportunities for challenge, growth, and developing community. With her most recent move to Maryland in 2015, she began playing tennis, where she met and became friends with Marty Banghart. This led to another new and exciting endeavor, singing in the Deer Creek Chorale. In her past life, Lisa was an elementary school teacher, and after earning her master’s degree at the University of Utah, she stayed at the "U" to teach Social Studies methods and supervise student teachers. Lisa grew up in a musical home, as her mother was a high school choral teacher and church pianist. She is excited to be on the DCC board in the coming year.

Rev. Todd Smith
Todd Smith has been the pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church since 2015. There is not a part of his life where music and singing haven’t been prominent in his life. He started singing in a church choir in 1970 since the age of four. He has participated in choral, chamber, Madrigal, musical theater and barbershop groups. He is married and has five children. His wife also is a talented singer and two of their five children are very accomplished musicians. When life gets tough and stressful, his motto has always been, “I’d rather be singing”.

Dr. Nelson Fritts, Jr.
Dr. Nelson Fritts Jr. has been in the field of Arts Education for the past 40 years. He served as Instructional Coordinator for Fine Arts for the Cecil County Public Schools until his retirement. His previous positions have included Fine Arts Supervisor for Allegany County, MD; Music Educator in the Anne Arundel County, MD; and Music Educator in the Hampshire County, WV school systems. As a conductor, Dr. Fritts has directed ensembles at every educational level from Pre- Twinkle Suzuki strings to university wind ensembles. He continues to serve as guest conductor and adjudicator in Maryland.
Jeff Gonya is a Trustee of the Friends School of Baltimore and serves on the Board of the Middle Grades Partnership. Mr. Gonya serves on the Board of Trustees of the Mpala Wildlife Foundation, Inc. and the Fund Management Committee of the ICDDR, B. He is also a member of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council. Mr. Gonya is a member of the Estates and Trusts Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association. He holds degrees from the University of Virginia and is a law partner at Venable.
