2/24/2023 – Greetings from Cincinatti

Dear folks,

Firstly, I want to thank our Board of Directors for sending Julie and me to the national ACDA conference in Cincinnati. It has been a phenomenal experience with memorable concerts, gorgeous venues, informational sessions, many new repertoire ideas and camaraderie with old friends and colleagues. I am always inspired, when I return from a conference which celebrates the choral art in all its forms. I so enjoyed talking about our organization and realized how special we really are. Many choirs have had huge challenges since Covid with numbers and monetary support down from previous levels. With all the challenges that we have had,  we have grown and keep getting better! I am so proud!

I loved our rehearsal on Tuesday night. I will be sending you a note from Wendy explaining about the parking situation. It will only happen twice more. I am eager to continue work on our two major works and to do the Choral arrangement of the Ukrainian folk song. Hopefully we can start putting the language to the notes soon. Please look at your syllabus and be ready for those new items and continue reviewing.

Don’t forget to put March 5 on your calendar for the chamber choir concert at Saint James at 3 o’clock. We would all very much appreciate your support and we wish Julie and the DCYC the best of luck as they prepare for hosting seven choirs at the annual Maryland young voices festival, which will be held at Towson United Methodist on March 18. We are looking for volunteers to serve dinner and if you can help out, please let either Melissa or me know.

Julie and I leave tomorrow morning at 6 AM so I am going to sign off now. Please practice hard, have everyone you know put April 30 on their calendar and stay well!

Gratefully
Marty
