03/05/2021 – Marty’s Missives – Friday missive/read to the end!!!!
Greetings folks,
What a wonderful evening with you this past Tuesday. A special thank you to Wayne for his brilliant presentation about Ruth and subsequent interview. I hope everyone walked away from that with a new appreciation for the power of music and it’s effect on a life well lived.
Now for some exciting news. We will be presenting a Virtual Spring Concert! Different from a virtual choir. A virtual concert is live in-person singing that is recorded and then released online at a specific date and time. Ours will likely be sometime in May. Just like our live concerts, there will be multiple groups performing, each rehearsed and recorded at different times, in different venues. The virtual concert will consist of the DCC, DCYC, and the Chamber Choir.
For the DCC’s part…you know how the syllabus says for our last rehearsals in April, “To be announced”? Well, here is the announcement; on April 20 and 27, we will be in-person and using a venue that is new to us; Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory, Maryland. They have an amazing, beautiful sanctuary that seats 1,000 people! I did not know there was such a performance space in Harford County! Wayne will share some pictures and provide more details in our next rehearsal, specifically about the advanced climate control system in the space as well as the safety protocols we will follow.
On April 20th, we will be in-person to rehearse our program (details below), and on April 27th, we will return and record our part of the virtual spring concert. This is the safest thing to do at this point. We are too big for an effective outdoor concert so this is a wonderful alternative. Mark, our amazing sound technician will then do his magic and put things together with our three performing groups into a marvelous virtual concert for our followers to enjoy. Please note, that although I hope everyone will participate, it will be up to each individual singer to determine if they are comfortable with meeting and singing in-person. No pressure, and no guilt.
So, the schedule going forward is (all times 7-8PM):
March 9, 16 – Virtual rehearsals as we’ve been doing. More surprises abound.
March 23, 30 – Streamed hybrid rehearsals. A small group of volunteers will be rehearsing at Bethel which will be streamed so that others will be able to participate online.
April 6 – In-person sectionals with altos and basses at Bethel.
April 13 – In-person sectionals with sopranos and tenors at Bethel.
April 20 – Full rehearsal at St. Ignatius.
April 27 – Recording at St. Ignatius. Concert dress will be all black with our singer masks.
