03/25/2022 – What a week for the DCC!!!!!!

Dear singers,

I am one happy, inspired and grateful lady as I write this missive. Where do I begin?

Firstly the Chamber Choir concert at St. James last Sunday was brilliant! If you missed it, you missed something truly special. The beauty of the venue and the appreciative audience inspired the singers, soloists and Lori to reach new musical heights. It was thrilling. Their last performance of the season will be May 12 at Edenwald. We all look forward to hearing them next season.

Secondly, Blake took the Mozart and infused new life and passion into this masterpiece on Tuesday. And you gave it your all. I was impressed with your preparation and execution of the work and the improvement that was made in two hours. And of course I LOVED singing!!!

Thirdly, the Women in Music History concert was so much fun and worth all of the hard work by the ladies!!! So many memorable performances with a wide variety of styles and genres, all written by women. Mary Sue’s granddaughter Abby was virtuosic on the violin, Katie Allen brought Billie Eilish to life, Rob played the pipe organ masterfully as well as accompanying the singers and the Ladies Plus one were magnifico. And Chris Potts tied it all together with the historical elements. Check out pics on Facebook.

Fourthly, I just received a letter reporting that our virtual choir “How Can I Keep from Singing” has been selected for inclusion in the upcoming Chorus America conference. What an honor!

Pretty good week wouldn’t you say? And that doesn’t include a report of the DCYC’s involvement in the Maryland Young Voices Festival on Saturday.

And moving forward, April 2 volunteers still needed for First Fruits Farm (see Patty) and Carnegie Hall April 7-10.

Now for Tuesday. We are down to 4 Tuesday rehearsals (possibly 3 depending on attendance and preparation). Friday April 22 , 7-10pm Goucher and  Saturday 10-1 with orchestra. Sunday call time TBS. Tickets go on sale April 1. Send out invites NOW so people have on their calendars!!!

This week will do warmups from 13-20. Make sure you have them ready to go. Then Movement 3 of Danny’s piece. That will complete all the music for the concert. Will review everything and concentrate on problem spots in the Mozart. You know where they are. Will complete auditions for the Alleluia. Michael Semancik will be our guest April 12 for The Awakening.

Keep using your learning files, stay well and have a lovely weekend.

Musically yours,

Marty
