04/01/2020 – Personal reflection on rehearsal night
Dear friends,
It is hard to believe that it has been three weeks since being together singing “We are One”. Certainly it is a different world with different emotional and stress points as well as schedules and activities. I just wanted to share with you a day in my altered life.
I start the day with stretches and coffee and sending a morning inspiration/joke out to friends, family and choristers. Treble is waiting for his daily walk which becomes a 1.5 hour hike on different country roads including different earth roads in the area. Upon return to the house, I check my list and do at least one household chore and if a nice day, have started trimming, raking and preparing the gardens. Daffodils have been lovely and I must have fresh flowers in the house. A huge mood enhancer. Pansies are in my flower boxes since those are the only plants safe enough to plant this early. If any time left, sit for a bit and read my latest book.
Ray and I then discuss the day’s meals. Have been doing dinner carry-outs a couple days a week to support our local businesses. I am very blessed that Ray likes to cook and shop. After lunch, spend time on emails and connecting with board members, fellow musicians and try to call at least 2 people a day to check up on them. Lately have been helping Sharon Kachur with her appeal for face masks. Even though I am not a seamstress, have been delivering materials and actually helped
Mary Sue today with cutting, measuring and ironing, all tasks I can handle. (I failed home economics in 8th grade). I try to spend at least an hour daily in the studio playing piano, guitar and singing art songs which I have been studying. Once a week, I go to Bel Air for my allergy shots. And yesterday I sent in my membership to the Gunpowder Riverkeeper. Please don’t forget to do that. Show your support!!!
Dinner time, we watch the daily press conference to educate ourselves on the status of the pandemic and then watch Jeopardy with Ray answering many more questions than I. We usually watch a movie/series and after Ray and Treble go to bed, I write in my journal keeping track of my day and checking with the Worldometer for the latest figures which I record. Before turning in, I step outside and check the skies and if I am lucky, view twinkling starts and various phases of the moon. Once in bed, have to move the dog who is usually reclined with his head on my pillow and I read. Presently I am reading Lab Girl which I am finding interesting considering the times.
In writing this, I feel a connection that even though not together physically, we still can celebrate life and our new creative use of time. I would love to hear about a typical day in your “stay at home” status. Literally, it would MAKE MY DAY.
Stay well, safe and enjoy the new normal which hopefully will be over sooner rather than later.
Positively,
Marty
