04/29/2022 – Surprise!!! Last regular Friday missive!!!
My dear friends/singers,
What a season this has been and to think it was our 15th anniversary. All the hard work, diligent practice, generosity of donors, grant writers, faithful fans, Covid protocols, board members, Melissa, our accompanists, volunteers, and the list goes on. The culmination of all of that hard work came to fruition on Sunday. It was an amazing concert from start to finish and I couldn’t be more proud of everyone involved. I am hoping that Mark got a really good video and if there is enough interest, we will produce DVDs. Please let me know if you would like one and how many. They make great gifts to send off to friends and family who could not be at the concert. And it is an opportunity to replenish our scholarship fund.
We had 53 attend the end of the year membership dinner and meeting. We had not been able to gather like that for three years. A special thanks to Louise and Ebeneezer church for welcoming us to a wonderful facility and to all those folks that helped set up and breakdown. The food was scrumptious and I actually made a recipe that I gathered on Tuesday night. Also thanks to those that have stepped forward and volunteered to be on committees. It is never too late and we need a lot of help going into next season. As you know from my announcement, a lot of pretty cool things are going to be happening and we need everybody’s support! And it is darn fun!!! If you did not hand in a paper on Tuesday or you were unable to attend, please contact our secretary Sharon and she will put you down in whatever area you’re interested in.
And of course there were many tears. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to Wayne and I think everybody was moved by his words! But moving forward, we are very fortunate to have Greg and can’t wait to see what new ideas he brings to the choir.
I have attached some pictures from the meeting. Also make sure you check the deer Creek Facebook page. There are some wonderful photos and if you had audience members take some photos or short video clips, please share them with me.
A special thanks to those that have written Danny individually. It means a lot to him and we want him to come back!
Reminder to those people planning on going to Europe in October, at least half of your payment is due by May 6. If you are taking out cancellation insurance, it has to be done within the first two weeks of your first payment.
Our 15th season is not quite over. The chamber choir has a rehearsal and concert at Edenwald on May 12. It is open to the public and starts at 7:30. Also the Ladies Six will be rehearsing on May 9 and preparing for an upcoming concert on September 25. We appreciate the extra effort that the singers put into these special groups! It is a big commitment and we are very blessed that we have such a dedicated and talented group of singers representing us in the wider community.
That is it for me! I will be leaving Maryland on June 10 and doing lots of varied things including my 50th college reunion, a five day hiking trip to the East Coast of Newfoundland, my cousin’s wedding in Colorado Springs and then of course, to our cabin in Temagami. It is there that I recharge my batteries and let my creative juices go wild. Then I will be ready to begin our 16th season on September 13. Please keep recruiting new singers and fans wherever you go and keep singing!
Important dates: October 1, November 20, April 1, 29 and 30.
