09/08/2022 – Last day in our wilderness retreat.

Good morning DCC singers,

Song is in the air!!!! I can feel it!! After a 4 month break, it is time to warm up our voices and sing songs about colors from different time periods plus 2 commissions.

So many folks have been hard at work behind the scenes writing grants, ordering music, putting together folders and personnel lists, getting items for our auctions for our big event on October 1 and the list goes on. We are so lucky to have such a fabulous team headed by our awesome administrator Melissa. Can’t thank her enough for all her hard work plus our dedicated librarian Donna who orders the music and puts all the folders together each year and our new assistant Greg for having the learning files ready to go on day one!

I I have attached the summer newsletter from the Board of Directors announcing some important changes. We are very excited to welcome Dr. Roy Belfield as our new accompanist and composer in residence. And the new assistant Director of the DCYC is Stacey Scarff, a former teacher and now Director of music at Highland Presbyterian Church. Our organization continues to attract new singers and music professionals who love working with us. And this fall, we will collaborate with local artists in producing A Musical Canvas.

And amidst all this, we have 11 singers traveling with the Baltimore Choral Arts in October to Berlin, Prague and Vienna. It promises to be a very busy but fulfilling start to our 16th season.

I look forward to meeting many of you on Sunday at Bethel between one and three to pick up music and to welcome our new singers and say hello to our returning ones. If you cannot make it on Sunday, please come early on September 13 to pick up your music. I would like to start rehearsal promptly at 7 PM. And a reminder, if you are going to be absent, please inform Greg and myself so that we won’t worry. Already a couple of you have let us know that you will be on vacation but have arranged for music pick up. You will also be hearing from Greg soon about how to use the Google Drive and Learning files.

And if you are ever not feeling 100%, please test yourself before coming to rehearsal. Masks are optional and as much as I am a hugger, for now I recommend elbow bumps
So in closing, I will see you soon and I’m excited to hear the first tones of OUR special DCC!

Musically yours,
Marty
