1/13/2023 – Happy Friday Missive
Dear folks,
What a wonderful first rehearsal on Tuesday! It was such fun welcoming eight new singers and seeing familiar faces after a two-month hiatus. I could not have been more thrilled with the sound emanating from the sanctuary and I’m so enthusiastic about what is to come! It was an informative rehearsal with lots of notes so the people that were not in attendance, please contact someone in your section before Tuesday.
This week, please come with your warmups volume IV numbers two, three and six and be prepared to sing An die Musik in German which is on the learning files. A huge shout out to Katelyn for her gorgeous performance of the Schubert piece. Another warm-up piece which we will do is Walk on the rainbow Trail. Most of you have that memorized. And we will run True Light which is to be memorized for the April concert. Auditions are the 24th. Let me know if you are going to try for it!!!
We will then begin our study of Light Beyond Shadow, the beautiful new piece by Dan Forrest. We will be starting at measure 51 but feel free to listen to the whole thing. We might sing it from start to finish to get our feet wet. Then we will attack the Kyrie and pages 59 through 62 of the Sunrise Mass. Also, Greg and I will be dividing folks into choir 1 and choir 2.
Always be prepared to review anything that we have gone over. The learning files are your friend. Please make use of them. They are a considerable cost to the choir to have them prepared by Choral Tracks every year but I think you would agree that they are well worth it. Greg will prepare a learning CD upon request.
A reminder to spread the DCC story on social media and have folks save the dates of our concerts. Also do use the DCC Smile account when ordering from Amazon. Every little bit helps. And a huge word of gratitude to those who supported our Fall appeal. It is never too late to show your love!!
Please use the directory to learn people’s names, especially your section buddies. If your picture is not there, do send one to Melissa.
That is it for me. Stay well, energized, kind and enjoy the weekend. Maybe send a miracle the Ravens way?
Musically yours,
Marty
