1/20/2024 – Snowy snow day!
Dear folks,
What a bummer to have missed rehearsal on Tuesday but weather looks good for next week. A warm-up is on the way. I was thrilled that there were 82 folks on zoom. I have flashbacks to the pandemic, but it is nice to have that capability if we need it.
On Tuesday, if you need to pick up music or pay up, please plan to come a little early. I want to start right at 7 PM. Those of you that have your music, please bring it all plus the warm-ups. As you noticed on the syllabus, we will be using warm-up volume two for most of the semester. Here is the plan for Tuesday:
Warm-ups number 1-4, solfege patterns, and a ditto that you will receive entitled The Music Theory Song thanks to Wayne. Very fun!
Starting from the bass part, will sing Ride the Chariot and make sure all notes and rhythms are correct. I know that many of you have at least the first section memorized. It is very repetitious and lively. Hopefully, we will nail it on Tuesday, polish next week and be ready to record on February 6.
Our goal with the Durufle is to be able to sing pgs. 4-8 (Kyrie) ACappella with an emphasis on line, beauty of tone, nuanced dynamics and spot on intonation. Lean into the ties and suspensions and sing your part like it is your “moment in the sun”. Then when the accompaniment joins which offers little help, you will be ready.
Slight change from the syllabus. Please learn measures 156 to the end of the Chariot Jubilee. We will observe fermatas once parts are lined up. Will initially sing all rhythms straight. Notice the polyphonic texture of the Hallelujah section and brisk Allegro tempo closing it out!

We will finish out the evening with the beautiful Holland piece. Will work to measure 40. All voices sing unison to meas. 27.
I am hopeful that with diligent preparation, we will finish on time but I reserve the right to keep you until 9:30 to make up for lost time.
Thank you, stay warm and healthy and GO RAVENS!!!!
Positively,
Marty
