1/23/2026 – First Friday missive of 2026!
Dear friends,
What an exciting rehearsal we had this past Tuesday! Welcome to our 13 new singers! I am so happy that you have joined our musical journey. Special thanks to Derrick for his gorgeous performance of “At the river “. It was a moving way to start our semester.
A special note from Donna, our amazing librarian. Many of you will not have Homeland in your packet. It is on backorder but should be arriving by the time we work on it.
Unfortunately, it looks like we will not be in person on Tuesday. I met with Greg yesterday and we have the zoom rehearsal ready to go. We will follow the syllabus but have many surprises up our sleeves. You will be getting a Zoom link and it will open at 6:50 to allow folks to sign in before we start at 7 o’clock. It is hard to believe that we did this for a year and a half during Covid but fortunately, because of our ability to rehearse online, the choir did not miss a beat!!!
I wanted to share this note we received from Elaine and the link to our performance. I often listen to it on my car rides, and I am reminded of how special the experience was.
And a bit of exciting news. On Saturday at Havre de Grace high school at 12:30, Derrick will be guest conducting the Harford all county chorus and Julie will be conducting the Harford all County high school chorus. If you have finished your preparations for the big snowstorm, come cheer them on! We certainly are proud of their accomplishments. Also, DCYC was involved in the ACDA children’s choir conference in Baltimore last weekend and did a splendid job. Check out the DCYC Facebook page for more info.
Yesterday I met with Stephen Holmes and we talked about the music festival coming up on March 14. We have quite a lineup and he is very excited to host us again at the Church of the Resurrection. He was relaying the fact that for the Christmas Eve service of which he had two, over 1100 people attended. Congrats to him for all he does as artistic director of The Maryland State Boychoir, music professor at Towson University, and the organist/choir director at Church of the Resurrection. He is a very busy guy!
In closing, please be careful this weekend. We will all be stranded in our homes and let the learning files be your diversion. Enjoy looking through your music and listening to the files. We have lots of music to learn so use this quiet time as a way to get ahead.
Stay well, walk it forward and do good!
