11/09/2019 – I Haven’t Forgotten !!

Good evening folks,

This week has been crazy thus the Saturday missive. Certainly a dramatic change in temps but such gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, brilliant skies and invigorating air! Studying our concert program in front of the fire with a crisp Shaw’s apple.

READ ALL OF THIS NOTE. Rehearsal will go until we have sung everything and feel comfortable. DO NOT LEAVE EARLY. Hope to be done by 9:15.  Bring plenty of water. The better prepared you are, the faster the rehearsal will progress. It is in your hands or should I say voice!!!!!

Thank you for an amazing rehearsal on Tuesday and thanks again to Wayne for recording it. Took lots of notes and hope you did too. We really need to refine our glottals-examples but in and out in. Without
a separation, you can see what comes across. Please note those spots in your music. When things get off, it is mainly due to lack of preparation and breath management. Also, need a rounder vowel formation throughout. Some vowels are brighter and less uniform than others. Think of a pear in the mouth or inward smile. Of course basic is confidence with notes and rhythms. USE the learning files!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t assume you know your music until you can sing your part with the ALL PARTS file.

Danny is brilliant! Wow, how cool was his presentation and how much fun we will have in learning From Mountain to Forest to River: Four Songs of Nature. If you were absent, make sure you get your copy. Will need to start on it over the holiday break which is 7 weeks long!

Schedule for Tuesday’s rehearsal:

Show up promptly at 7PM warmed up and ready to go. Come early to get tickets/posters which are in the lobby. All new singers, plan to stay for a minute after rehearsal for a picture. Sorry I forgot last week.
Too excited!

Work Simple Gifts and Concentrate with John and Shisa at the piano.

Come Ye Thankful People Come with David at the organ. Verse 1 and 4 in unison (soprano 1’s on descant), verses 2,3 in harmony. Audience will join us as we walk in. Make sure you bring your MUSIC. See Donna if you did not get one.

Alway Something Sings-you were hesitant but partly due to not singing it in rehearsal for 3 weeks. Really need to polish it this week. Will be accompanied by strings and piano.

What Sweeter Music-do you know all your notes? The ending was very sketchy. YOU ARE BRITISH!!!!

I Thank you God- Check out all the turn of page difficulties, especially 9-10, 17-18, Really over singing on this one. Go through and circle all of the p, pp, mp. You are doing most of the work mf or louder. Circle accents as well. It is all in the vocal painting of this piece!!

Serenade to Music- run this piece with sections executing the solos except for a couple spots which we assigned last week. Once again, LOVE IT and the audience will love it too.

Ode to Music-this was actually pretty darn good. Ending is almost there. Will probably run just once.

Look at the World-enjoy!!!!!!

If time, Thanks be to God with soloists.

Dress rehearsal at St. Matthew’s starting promptly at 7PM on Tuesday November 19th. Plan on staying until 9:30. Don’t complain. You don’t have a special rehearsal!! Concert day plan to arrive by 2:30.

Thanks to everyone for your contribution to our ad program. Deadline is tomorrow. Please consider a tribute if nothing else. Think of it as a Thanksgiving blessing.

That is it for now folks. I am VERY excited about this concert. Love the music and we are so close to creating the WOW factor!!!

Gratefully,
Marty
