11/17/2023 – Last Friday Missive of Fall semester 2023! Please READ!

Dear friends,

Wow, this past semester has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that we were at our opening dinner and meeting one another and talking about the music, meeting our collaborative partner, and welcoming many new singers. In these short 10 weeks, you have accomplished so much-from quick and thorough score reading/learning, donating PJs for LASOS, putting on an incredible online auction and Big  band in the barn event, a Halloween harvest party not to mention the Chamber choir, DCYC and Ebb and Flow rehearsing and performing for community events.

And now for the crowning accomplishment – our concert Fabric of Gratitude! Ticket sales have been robust and maybe our goal of 500 audience members may be reached! Because of the expected number of patrons, please park in the lower lot. And as you walk to the church, you can warm up your voice. Going to be sunny!!!

Schedule:

Arrive no later than 2:45 in concert dress with black folders.  Enter the church quietly after you have picked up your star. Put on the left side.

3:00 Formal picture of our group.
3:10 Run our three pieces with the kids while informal pics are being taken.

Doors will not open until we are ready but aiming for 3:30. At that time or during intermission, you can purchase raffle tickets but make sure you have them in your folder or give to a family member. Drawing will be while kids are getting up for the last two numbers.

At the end of the concert, please hand in your stars. Can imagine using them again.

Now for the music. Repositioning piano to the center which may help keep us all together.

Fabric, enunciate like crazy, look up and light up your face. If they need help, a few sopranos offer support to the kids.

We Gather,  soloists go out in aisles but I will conduct you. May use center aisle. During the ooh’s, return and stand on floor in front of your section. Choir, Text is so important!!! Make this feel waltz like, not ponderous with no inflection. Be sure to watch me for the nuances.

But Thanks, separate, dance, light and springy. Watch s’s.

Threads of Joy, breath support! We must not drag this. Be very aware of intonation. And soloists, do return with melody on page 10. Tune that initial D.

Measure me Sky, look up to the sky! You know this! Enjoy every morsel of loveliness!

Sit and watch your step. Be very careful. Do what Greg suggested. Looks much better. Do not sit until all back to seats. Watch Greg for signal.

Jubilate Deo, Michael and you all will make this sparkle. Have fun! Get out of the music!

Canto Que Amabas, sing lovingly and create something magical. I know you can do it. Dynamic contrast!!!! That applies to ALL the pieces.

Welsh Prayer, always be cognizant of where the melody is. Don’t cover it. This is such a pleasure to sing. Watch very carefully on the last page.

The Times They are A-Changin’. Give it a new relevance. Feel the rhythm. Expressive faces. Give yourself and ME goosebumps.

Make our Garden Grow, this gets better every time you sing it. Do not oversing. I challenge the basses to rock pgs. 9-12. Katelyn, Emalyn and Jocelyn go for those high C’s.

Raffle drawing

Julie will conduct 1000. Christine, Mary Beth, Kate and Wendy bring out measures 35-40.

How Can I Keep, when you have the melody, make it delicious and lyrical.

Group bow. Watch me. Soloists, you get your bow after your piece.

If you can, help clean up and express your gratitude to each and everyone for their support! A special thank you to our quilt ladies!

December 5, 6-8pm quartet from the Chamber choir performing at Ladew.

Registration is open until December 10th.

Rejoice concert on December 10th. Support the DCYC and Chamber Choir.

DCYC at Edenwald on December 14.

Rehearsals resume January 16th.

Here’s wishing you a joyous holiday season. I will miss our weekly time together but in the meantime, please work on the spring music. It is all on the learning files.

Love you all,
Marty
