3/14/2025 – Exciting exploration of new repertoire

Good morning, folks,

I will make this Friday missive short and sweet. Firstly, thank you for all those folks who came out on Tuesday to pack the bags for kits for kids. Once again, an example of many hands make light work. A special thank you to Patty for organizing our collaborative project and of course to Melissa who makes sure everything runs smoothly!

Tuesday’s rehearsal is going to be jampacked. We are pushing forward since the plan is to have a spring break on April 15. Please make every effort to come to rehearsals well prepared. Here is the plan:

Warm-ups – round #8, O love, Let all the World and Great is Thy faithfulness.

Mozart-meas. 1-63. Say words in rhythm and melody on doots. Then combine. Always make it dance. Just think he wrote this piece when he was 13 years old!

Saturn – what an absolutely gorgeous new piece of choral music! I was fortunate to discover this and I’m so excited to do it. We will begin this adventure with learning measures 18 through 34.

Sing out my soul – a totally fun and joyful piece. Most challenging element is the rhythm, but it is repetitious. Will concentrate on measures 1-45.

On Saturday will be going to Philadelphia to attend Michael’s concert. Very excited about that. And on Sunday, a group of us will be going to the Meyerhoff to support Steve Scheinberg. And a solo recital coming up by Lindsay. So many exciting things in March. And on Wednesday, Greg, Julie and I will be flying to Dallas to attend the American Choral Directors Association National conference. At that time, we will meet up with many and hear amazing concerts and pick up new ideas and repertoire. We are very blessed to have a supportive board that helps us stay relevant and informed. And talking about the board, we have three openings. If you are interested in serving and having a great time with your colleagues, please let a board member or me know.

And in case you missed the blood moon.

I had dinner with Joan Hodous last night and she wanted me to share a picture of the painting she did which was inspired by our concert Darkness to light. She is an amazing woman and has a solo art show coming up in April at the Liriodendron. More information to follow.

That is it for me. Look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Marty
