05/27/2020 – Parent Community Conversation

Dear Parents,

I hope that you were able to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend with family.  It’s finally starting to feel like summer is on its way and we have been enjoying lots of time outside.

I apologize for my lack of communication last week. We did NOT have a virtual rehearsal, and I think we are going to go ahead and break for summer.  I’m feeling so sad that our spring season has ended this way.  I miss our singers so much, and while it has been SO good to see many of their faces over the past two months, I just wish there was a way for us to all sing together.  What I have been reminded of every week is that DCYC is so much more than just a group of singers, it’s a community of young musicians that supports each other and creates and explores together.  We are here for each other and I want to continue to be here for our young singers in these difficult times.  More than ever before, our youth are desperate for ways to express themselves and connect with other youth in a creative and authentic way.

The past two weeks has brought a lot of information and the start of some new research studies regarding the future of singing in light of covid-19.  I think we are all realizing the challenges that we will face to get back to life as we once knew it.   While there is still so much that is unknown, we can begin to brainstorm and chat about what we CAN do and what you/your singer are interested in doing in the coming months and even into 2021.

I invite all of you to join me for a DCYC Parent Community Conversation tomorrow night, Thursday, May 28th from 7-8pm.  We will brainstorm ways for our singers to stay connected over the summer and possible scenarios for our 2020-2021 season.
