4/04/2025 – Loved Tuesday’s rehearsal!

Good morning folks,

We are on a roll! Firstly, congratulations to soprano and tenor 1’s for their perfect attendance on Tuesday! Boy, does it make a difference when we have folks at rehearsal! I am hoping for the same this week since we are reaching the end of our 18th season. That is certainly hard to believe!

Now for the schedule:

Warm-ups – first two movements of Illuminare. Make sure you bring your scores!

Let all the world in every corner sing – it is all about drama and dynamic contrast. And of course, breath preparation, diction, and not over singing.

In the Time of Silver Rain– if you were absent, please get markings from your section leader. Once again, this is all about dynamics and beauty of tone and portraying the text.

Sing out, my soul – count sing this piece. It is full of syncopation, which needs to be accurate. The text embodies why we sing so it should be full of joyful dance and ribald spirit! Of course this needs to be portrayed on your face as well. We will start on page 16.

Saturn-oh my, wasn’t the descant absolutely glorious! Tuesday we will put everything together with flute as well. This is one of those sublime pieces that can bring both singers and audience to tears. I had such goosebumps on Tuesday! Once again, count sing and observe glottals where needed for clarity of text.

Mozart – we came so far at rehearsal and I was impressed with your grasp of the double fugue. Keep working words in rhythm. When we went slower, you didn’t like it. Once again, let’s make it dance and do look at the translation in each section. There needs to be a contrast.

Great is Thy faithfulness – look up, look up! Let’s get it as close to memorized as possible.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you at the Manor Mill tomorrow night. We would love your support. It’s a perfect date night!

Stay well, practice, and enjoy the rebirth that spring brings!

Musically yours,
Marty
