Join our Youth Choir
The Deer Creek Youth Choir is an auditioned community choir. We give students with a passion for music and love of singing the opportunity to grow in their musical abilities and leadership skills, as they help to better the public and private school music programs of which they are a part. We also have homeschooled students who participate in our choirs as the musical component of their education program.
The Deer Creek Youth Choir is currently open to singers entering grades 2-9 with unchanged treble voices. We offer a friendly vocal placement audition process and strive to make each child’s audition as welcoming and encouraging as possible. It is an opportunity for both the singer and their parent/guardian to meet with our Artistic Director and learn more about our program. Children are asked to sing a prepared song of their choice (and are lead through a variety of other vocal and ear training exercises). Prior experience isn’t required, but a love for singing and working with others is a must!
Auditions are held in June, July and August for the upcoming season, which runs from September to May. Mid-season auditions can also be scheduled in December.
Weekly rehearsals for DCYC are held on Thursday evenings. Jubilate singers have the option of rehearsing in Bel Air or Fallston (Ebenezer United Methodist Church) and Vivace singers rehearse in Fallston. Fall Season runs from September through November and the Spring Season runs January through May.
Deer Creek Youth Choir is comprised of two ensembles for singers of varying age and ability: Vivace & Jubilate. These ensembles perform both individually and as a combined choir in performances. Rehearsals are held independently for each group with occasional combined rehearsals prior to each performance.
DCYC Jubilate Choir (2nd-5th grade) members learn music reading skills, solfege & ear training abilities, develop age-appropriate vocal technique and sing in unison and 2-part harmony.
DCYC Vivace Choir (6th-9th grade) members are comfortable using the full range of their voices and sing in multiple harmony parts. Singers continue to develop healthy vocal technique, sight-reading and ear training ability and musicianship skills.
Tuition for the entire 2023-2024 season is $425 per child. If joining midyear, the cost is $300 per child. Tuition includes all materials except concert attire. It also includes the use of professional Learning Files – audio files of all music by individual voice parts. Additionally formal and informal concert attire fees are $85 ($70 for formal concert attire and $15 for t-shirt). For those with more than one child singing, we are happy to offer a $50 sibling discount on the 2nd child’s tuition.
We believe that all children should have the opportunity to participate in a high level choral ensemble, and therefore need-based tuition assistance is available.
