With the war in Ukraine, the lingering effects of COVID-19, the increase of violence in our country and our polarized government, these are challenging times. With the backdrop of war in Europe, Franz Joseph Haydn wrote Mass in Time of War or Missa in Tempori Belli in 1796 during similar times. Under the baton of Anthony Blake Clark, the combined choirs of the Deer Creek Chorale and the George Washington University singers plus guest soloists and orchestra, will present a riveting performance of this timely composition for our audiences.
The second half of the program will bring focus on our collaborative partner, Camp Sunrise, which is a residential camp for children with cancer. The combined choirs will perform the sublime “Sunrise Mass” by contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo to dramatize the theme “Light Beyond Shadow”.
