01/31/2020 – Greetings on Super Bowl Weekend

Dear Singers,

I am sure you all have a busy weekend planned. Hopefully you can sneak in some practice time. Presently we are on target according to the syllabus and I am happy about that. It will give us time to polish and work musical elements into each piece. Remember, we are going to record the first movement of Danny’s piece on Tuesday. Say the text expressively and then add while you sing each phrase.

Plan for Tuesday not in any particular order:

New warm-ups 11 and 14
Record 1st movement
Finish Hand in Hand. Start memorizing and move ANYTHING while you practice!
Sunrise Mass Movement IV Be ready for the whole piece. First 42 meas.
you already know.
Begin work on The Pure River. Absorb the text first.
Review anything and everything that we have already touched upon.

Exciting news from YOUR Board of Directors. Tomorrow from 9:30-4:30, under the experienced guidance of Stephanie Davis, we will be revising the Strategic Plan from 2013. 95% of our goals from that plan have been met. The members will be brainstorming new ideas and materials gleaned from the audience and member surveys. A huge thank you to all involved and will look forward to the results of their hard work. The Board is always looking for folks who would like to become more involved, whether singers or supporters from the community. Serving on a committee is a great way to “get your feet wet”. Being in the educational field my entire career, I had never served on a board and have learned so much about Non-profits and what goes in to a successful one. Come learn and have fun!!!

Put February 23rd on your calendar. Chamber choir at St. James, Monkton, 3PM.

Super exciting news! The resident harpist for the BSO will be accompanying The Water Is Wide. You will meet her on May 1. Thank you to all who have donated toward the Jackie McCosh Memorial Orchestra Fund and continue to do so. Because of this fund, we can attract top-notch professionals to make music with us.

Best of luck to our very own Katie Allen on her audition for the Washington National Opera American Opera Institute at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on Sunday, February 2nd.  If she is accepted, she will attend a three week summer camp that will conclude with an amazing Opera at the Kennedy Center.  Fingers crossed !!

Katie will also be trying out for The Voice next week !  Good Luck Katie !!

That’s it for now. Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday.
