“The Earth Provides” – A reflection on the Fall Concert
On November 21, 2021 the Deer Creek Chorale and Deer Creek Youth Choir had their first live concert since the Covid-19 Pandemic. Two years without a live audience is quite a long time for a choir that is celebrating our 15-year anniversary! St. Ignatius Catholic Church provided the most beautiful setting for the long-awaited concert. We were tasked with the debut performance of “The Earth Provides” under the direction of local composer Preston Hutt. It was an honor to have our voices bring this unique work to life for the first time! From young to old the audience was filled with bright eyes that couldn’t hide the smiles under their masks. The DCYC made us all feel young again as we listened to their angelic voices blend with beautiful sound. I felt like dancing in my seat when they sang “Count On Me” with Ukulele accompaniment! The DCC brought goosebumps to my arms with their performances of “To My Old Brown Earth” and “In Paradisum.” But I could see several singers fighting back emotion with both groups ended the concert with the lighthearted “Sing, Sing a Song!”
It was a long-awaited evening of amazing music, spectacular performances, friendship, accomplishment, celebration, and emotion. It left the audience and performers thinking about what is to come with the Spring concert and upcoming performance of the Mozart Requiem! Bravo!
