Who Are We? Based in Harford County, Maryland, the Deer Creek Youth Choir (DCYC) is a community choir that inspires young singers to reach their full musical potential. DCYC is committed to developing each singer’s vocal technique, music literacy, performance discipline, self-esteem & ability to work well with others. We strive to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable to express themselves while working towards a common goal with their peers. Founded in 2017 with 17 singers, DCYC has doubled in size in it’s second season and will expand to two ensembles in the fall of 2018, including singers in 2nd through 9th grades. DCYC is supported by the Deer Creek Chorale (DCC), the premiere adult choral ensemble in Harford and Northern Baltimore Counties. In line with the values of the DCC, the Deer Creek Youth Choir is committed to singing locally and giving globally,” serving our community and the world.
Where and When Do We Rehearse? The DCYC rehearses at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 135 Norrisville Rd. White Hall, Md. 21161. The concert season runs from September to May. Our weekly rehearsals focus on vocal technique, ear training, Kodály solfege exercises, music reading, and performance discipline. DCYC singers are given the opportunity to work with internationally renowned composers and clinicians each year.
How Often and Where Will We Perform? Approximately five performances will be held during the school year in both Harford and Baltimore counties. We are committed to connecting our singers with other youth from across the state and the country through participation in the annual Maryland Young Voices Festival, and nomination for honor choirs through the American Choral Director’s Association. Future goals for the organization include domestic and international tours that will allow our singers to share their musical gifts and experience our world through song. For an example of our rehearsal and performance schedule see our 2016-2017 Rehearsal and Event Schedule.
What Does It Cost to join? Tuition for the 2018-2019 season is $400 per child. Tuition includes all materials except concert attire. It also includes the use of professional Learning Files – audio files of all music by individual voice parts. Additionally formal and informal concert attire fees will be $80.
