Singing and Serving in Action – Project C.U.R.E.
Project C.U.R.E. (Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment) is the registered trademark of the Benevolent Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, humanitarian relief organization based in Denver, Colorado. It is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the world that delivers medical supplies and equipment to developing countries. Its main purpose is to collect and sort donated medical supplies and equipment from manufacturers, hospitals, and surpluses and then distribute the supplies and equipment to developing countries based on a needs assessment of the local hospitals and clinics in those countries.
The DCC family of choirs partnered with Project C.U.R.E. this winter/spring, donating about 100 ‘Kits for Kids’ (items you would be likely to find in your medicine cabinet for good hygiene and to tend to the cuts and scrapes, bug bites and fevers common to all children). March 11, we gathered – a force of 30 – to sort products into kits. On April 5, 10 of our members delivered these kits to the Project C.U.R.E. warehouse in West Grove, PA and spent a couple hours helping sort through donations in the warehouse. A tour and explanation of warehouse operations left us totally impressed with the intricacies of matching donations with needs and complimentary products with previous donations or equipment already in place at the many locations serviced by Project C.U.R.E. Steph Davis, our President of the Board and long-time volunteer for Project C.U.R.E., and John Scheidel were dancing in the aisles to see a large shipment ready for loading and transport to two sites in Zambia where they had helped with a needs assessment several years prior.
By singing and serving, Deer Creek Chorale is proud to make an impact, not only musically, but in our service to our community and our world.
