The Chariot Jubilee coming April 28th!
A hallmark of Deer Creek Chorale is our desire to premier commissioned works in the MidAtlantic region. In 2023, DCC commissioned famed composer Stacey V. Gibbs, known for his ability to bring fresh life to spiritual pieces, to create a new arrangement of Ride the Chariot which will premiere at this concert. The concert will also feature the sublime Durufle Requiem (conducted by Stephen Holmes, Artistic Director, The Maryland State Boychoir) partnered with music by black composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Deer Creek Chorale is proud to be bringing this monumental piece to the audience, as it is not often performed. In addition, we will also feature The Chariot Jubilee by Canadian Nathaniel Dett (conducted by Heidi Ackerman, Music Director, The Frederick Chorale) which features a tenor soloist and organ. This piece is an extended work based on the well-known spiritual Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
